Simulating Confined Fluids in Nanoporous Materials

چکیده
If people could shrink themselves down and enter the world of nanoporous materials—solid materials like activated carbon or porous glasses that have pores of nanometer size—they would encounter exotic phenomena that were quite unexpected on the basis of everyday experience. Even thermodynamic properties thought of as constant such as the freezing point of water can be markedly depressed when fluids are confined in these tiny pores. And new phases sometimes appear that are different from typical bulk vapor, liquid, or solid phases.

Cats, maps and nanoflows: some recent developments in nonequilibrium nanofluidics
A review of some recent advances focusing on the problem of nano-scale fluids far from equilibrium modelled by nonequilibrium molecular dynamics (NEMD) is presented. It will be demonstrated how novel materials such as dendrimers can be successfully modelled using NEMD methods and how the distortion of their geometry by the imposed field has a significant influence on the transport properties of...
متن کاملOn the importance of a precise crystal structure for simulating gas adsorption in nanoporous materials.
We show that simulation of gas adsorption in nanoporous sorbents may be highly sensitive to accurate crystallographic coordinates, even for frameworks anticipated to have low flexibility.
متن کاملSurfactant mobility in nanoporous glass films.
Polymer molecules when physically confined at nanometer length scales diffuse nonclassically and very differently depending on their molecular weight and the nature of the confinement. Long polymers that exhibit "snakelike" reptation based mobility in melts may diffuse faster in confined nanometer sized cylinders with pore diameter d approximately 15 nm, and short polymers subject to Rouse dyna...
متن کاملComputational Chemistry Methods for Nanoporous Materials
We present here the computational chemistry methods our group uses to investigate the physical and chemical properties of nanoporous materials and adsorbed fluids. We highlight the multiple time and length scales at which these properties can be examined and discuss the computational tools relevant to each scale. Furthermore, we include the key points to considerupsides, downsides, and possibl...
متن کاملSliding and translational diffusion of molecular phases confined into nanotubes
The remaining dynamical degrees of freedom of molecular fluids confined into capillaries of nano to sub-nanometer diameter are of fundamental relevance for future developments in the field of nanofluidics. These properties cannot be simply deduced from the bulk one since the derivation of macroscopic hydrodynamics most usually breaks down in nanoporous channels and additional effects have to be...
